The New Cat Wheel will be named the Pet Wheel. It has been completely redesigned and will be bigger than the Toy-go-Round Cat Wheel. It will be manufactured solely in the USA, and it will accommodate small dogs, large rodents, and other pets in addition to cats (especially Bengals & Savannahs). The bigger size makes the wheel easier for pets to run on the track. The fact that it is manufactured in the USA means that the Cat Wheel will have increased quality.
The Pet Wheel is a product designed to provide your pet with the opportunity to exercise with minimal space. Our wheel is 48" in diameter with a 12" running track. By creating a wheel with a bigger diameter the wheel resembles more of a level running ground that will allow your pet to more easily enjoy the benefits of running in a secure, safe, and easily accessible environment.
The wheel itself is made out of industrial plastic components and the stand is made out of steel. The Tread Pads are made out of foam with adhesive backing.
The current picture that appears is of the prototype that was provide to us in late June. Since we received the picture the developers and designers of the cat wheel have been testing it at various location throughout Southern California. Make sure that the wheel will be save for your pet. They have also made big changes not only to the wheel but also in our manufacturing process.
Our hope is that the New Pet Wheel from the Cat Wheel Co. will be as successful as the Toy-go-Round Cat Wheel that has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Animal Planet's My Cat from Hell Television shows. The Pet Wheel should start shipping the week of October 28, 2013. Please join our Waiting List to be notified of its availability.

How do I know how my pet will react to the wheel?
Every pet has a different personality that reacts differently to new objects in their environment. Some are naturally curious and take to the wheel immediately, others need a little more help in understanding how they can enjoy it. Normally a pet who is a bit mischievous or very curious will take to the wheel quickly. If they are more cautious, just like anything else you introduce them to, it will just take some attention. With this in mind we have some common tips below that you can use if you need a hint on getting them used to it.
How do I get my pet to use the wheel?
Depending on what kind of animal you have you might want to take slightly different approaches. You obviously know your pet better than we do so you know what works and what doesn't with introducing new behaviors to them. With that in mind we have some suggestions to get you started!
For cats, if they are reluctant to use the wheel (after putting them on the wheel and spinning it a little to get them to understand what it does) we advice using a laser pointer or a wand and place it just below a quarter ways up from the wheel. We will be posting various videos of this method and it seems to help them understand as well as a fun way to spend time with your cat. Also you can use a treat to reward them every time they use the wheel (when they walk a little or complete one full circle of the wheel).
For dogs, first put them in the wheel and start moving the wheel so they get used to walking in it. Reward them with verbal reassurances or treats when they run/walk on their own. If they don't take to it naturally try using a verbal queue and use it consistently every time you get them on the wheel. Just like teaching a dog to sit you want to get them to connect running on the wheel as a good thing.
